Case Studies
Real-world success stories demonstrating Bowie equipment performance across diverse applications
Case Studies Showcase
From emergency wildfire recovery to major infrastructure projects, Bowie equipment delivers reliable performance when it matters most. These case studies showcase how our equipment helps contractors, government agencies, and environmental professionals achieve exceptional results.
New Bowie 3000 performs lights out on Alabama power plant closure
Challenge & Solution
After demolition and debris removal, exposed soil needed fast erosion control to prevent runoff into the Mulberry Fork of the Black Warrior River. Burns Environmental installed perimeter silt fence, then followed ongoing site prep with hydromulching, wattles, and erosion control fencing.
Key Results
- Hydromulched a 20 acre site as prep work progressed across roughly 6 months
- Averaged about three quarters of an acre per load using Profile wood fiber with tackifier
- Delivered reliable performance on a first use machine with no downtime issues reported
Hydromulching stabilizes Fountain Creek after major flood damage
Challenge & Solution
After floodwaters damaged Fountain Creek and shifted the channel toward a highway bridge, emergency repairs protected the bridge but increased bank erosion. A six million dollar restoration effort combined channel realignment, riprap protection, and hydromulching to stabilize banks and restore aquatic and terrestrial habitat.
Key Results
- Completed hydromulching before winter to protect the floodplain until spring germination
- Applied Flexterra HP FGM and floodplain restoration seed at 4000 pounds per acre
- Achieved erosion control performance similar to rolled erosion blankets
Advanced Erosion Solutions delivers erosion control for new soccer complex
Challenge & Solution
A newly constructed soccer complex included steep shale slopes and a tight opening schedule. Advanced Erosion Solutions used hydromulching with hose and tower application to stabilize slopes and establish vegetation ahead of opening day.
Key Results
- Hydromulched 8 acres across a weekend schedule
- Applied Flexterra BFM at rates of 3500 and 3000 pounds per acre depending on slope
- Completed most of the site in a single day using three machines
Bowie Imperial 3000 Hydro-Mulcher® performs lights out at Murphy, NC / Cherokee County in western North Carolina
Challenge & Solution
The project involved road widening from Murphy, North Carolina, through Cherokee County to the Georgia state line. Allen Stewart and High Country HydroSeeding used a Bowie Imperial 3000 Hydro-Mulcher® with HydroMulch Wood with Tack across more than 100 acres.
The project presented difficult terrain with 1.5-to-1 slopes, environmentally sensitive waterways, and significant erosion-control and drainage concerns. Vegetation needed to be established quickly while limiting overland water flow, sheet erosion, and gully erosion through high HydroMulch® application rates.
Key Results
- Successfully established vegetation across 100+ acres, even on challenging 1.5:1 slopes.
Hydroseeding for Erosion Control on Slopes and Embankments of the Maya Railway
Challenge & Solution
Building the Maya Train’s 1,554 km route across Campeche, Yucatán, Quintana Roo, and Chiapas meant working on mostly karstic and limestone soils, where geotechnical variability, erosion, and slope stability were constant concerns. Hidrolands developed technical hydroseeding tests that were approved by Grupo Carso, Mota-Engil, the Mexican Society for Geotechnical Engineering, and SEDENA. It then created the erosion control specifications used across the train’s sections, combining hydroseeding with biomats and geomats where needed.
Key Results
- Hydroseeded 2,109,003 m² across three sections
- Hidrolands’ specification was adopted for several Maya Train sections
- The method was validated by SMIG and SEDENA and presented as a technical paper at the SMIG national geotechnical meeting (CDMX, September 3–7, 2024)
- Hidrolands was the installer on Section 2 (217 km treated), the Campeche Beltway (18 km), and Section 5 North
